Trail Running

Loop the Lakes Trail Run

This annual run has been happening for 13 years and really showcases the trails that the Squamish area has to offer. With three distances to choose from and a free kids run, this event truly is family friendly and is an ideal way to kick off your spring running.

Distance: 21 km, 15 km, 8 km and a 1 km kids race
Location: Alice Lake Provincial Park, Squamish, BC

5 Peaks Golden Ears Trail Race

This race offers a combination of single/double track terrain through the beautiful Golden Ears Provincial Park. This family friendly race offers two course options for adults and 2 course options for kids. This race is a proud cup-free event, so make sure you bring your own reusable cup/container. 5 Peaks also offers other races throughout BC, check out their website for more race information.

Distance: 13 km Enduro Course, 8.5 km Sports Course and 1 km & 3 km kids courses.

Fast and Female Girl’s Run

Fast and Female is an organization driven to keep girls healthy, happy and active in sports through their teens by introducing them to inspiring athlete role models. Join the Fast and Female ambassadors for a morning of girl power! Run includes: distance of your choice, yoga/dance party, autographs, and inspirational chat.

Distance: 500 meters and 2 km
Location: Burnaby Lake Regional Park, Burnaby, BC

North Shore Triathlon

2017 marks the 28th year for this annual race. Taking place in the picturesque areas of North Vancouver, this triathlon takes racers from the Ron Andrews pool, along Mount Seymour Parkway towards Deep Cove for the bike and then a combination of road and trail running for the finish. This family friendly event allows the kids to race first and then the parents, making for a great spectator race.

Distance: 740 m swim, 17.6 km bike, 5 km run (Adult/Juniors)
50-225 m swim, 1.5-10 km bike, 0.5-3 km run (Kids, distance dependent on age group)

Tri It Triathlon

This triathlon is the perfect way to get your kids interested in multi-sport races. With a toddler tri where trikes are welcome, all the way to a more competitive level for kids aged 8-19, this triathlon truly is a community event.

Langley Tri It Triathlon

This Triathlon is a perfect for the family looking to get try out their first triathlon. Designed for all abilities but perfect for beginners this race provides an easy course, simple transitions, and a welcoming environment that will get the whole family hooked on racing!

Distance: 25 m – 300 m swim, – 6.6 km bike, 600 m – 2.5 km run (Youth, distance dependent on age)
400 m swim, 19.4 km bike, 4.8 km run (Adults, 60+ and Relay)

SunRype TRi KiDS Triathlon Series

The SunRype TRi KiDS Triathlon Series offers safe, non-competitive, confidence-building races for kids.  This event combines three sports kids love: swimming, biking and running. The goal of these events is to encourage positive and healthy attitudes towards physical activity and instilling self confidence. TRi KiDS creates a memorable event where our young athletes are the focus and their participation is celebrated by all who attend.

Road Running

Run For Women Vancouver

The Run for Women is Canada’s only national women’s race where funds raised support women’s mental health programs. Sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart, this race offers a 5 km and 10 km route, along with a Little Steps Girls 1 km race.

Distance: 1 km, 5 km, and 10 km courses
Location: University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC
Cost: $25 – $45
Training Level: All Abilities
Age: 12 years and under (kids race) and 12 years+ (1 km and 5 km lengths)

Sun Run

2017 marks the 33rd year for this famous annual 10 km run, the largest road race in Canada. The route takes runners throughout the downtown area of Vancouver, past the tall corporate towers, water views along English Bay, and over two bridges, and ending at BC Place stadium with a huge wrap up party. This run draws over 40,000 participants from all over the world!

Distance: 10 km and 2.5 km Mini Sun Run
Location: Downtown Vancouver, BC
Cost: $60 (10 km), $30 (0-18 yrs, 2.5 km) and $42 (19+years, 2.5 km)

BMO Vancouver Marathon

Ranked as one of the top destination marathons in the world! With a course that is 70% shoreline views and goes past beaches and through natural parks, the Vancouver Marathon is a world class event. The kids race takes place in Stanley Park, is for all fitness levels and is designed to get kids moving, make healthy choices and boost their confidence. Kids race on the Saturday and parents can race on the Sunday, making for a great family race weekend event!

Distance: 42.2 km or 21.1 km (adults) and 8 km or 2.5 km (kids)
Location: Downtown Vancouver, BC

Fort Langley Historic Half

The Fort Langley Historic Half was the first race my kids ever participated in and they absolutely LOVED it! The course had the children inside the Historic Fort Langley Historic site where parents could see and cheer on their children the whole time. Perfect for little legs smaller runners can enjoy less laps while bigger kids can strut their stuff. The adult 5 km, 10 km, and half marathon is perfect for beginner runners as the terrain is suitable for walkers, joggers, and runners, and the scenery is beautiful and inspiring.

SNF Canada Day Rock

Interested in celebrating Canada’s 150th Birthday with a family run? The Semiahamoo First Nation Canada Day Rock is an event suited for the whole family. For children 2 – 5 years there’s a kids run complete with 200 meter laps for the kids to choose their distance. Kids 5 years and older can join their parents on a 5 km route or do the kids run. Adults can choose between the 5 km and the 10 km options.

Microsemi Science Fun Fair Run

Have you heard of the Microsemi Run? It’s the largest timed 5 km fun run in BC and is one of the largest fundraisers for the BC tech sector! Now in its 18th year, this family oriented event has balloons, free giveaways and free admission to the TELUS world of Science on race day, as well as prizes for the fastest and largest teams. All funds raised go to support science fairs across the province and the Science Fair Foundation.

Biking Events

Kids BC Bike Race

Share in the excitement that is the BC Bike Race. Kids can enjoy an easy course that brings them over grass and gravel where they can complete multiple laps based on their ability level. All kids receive a medal for participating! Two locations to choose from.

Distance: Small courses allowing the kids to do a few laps at their skill level

Prospera Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan

Want to challenge yourself to a Granfondo road cycling race but also turn it into a fun family filled weekend? Then be sure to check out this great weekend in Penticton, as this event has it all… adult race, wine country, Kid’s Piccolofondo and Sunday kids camp! Both parents can challenge themselves with varying distances on race day while the kids take part in a fun filled day camp at Fitkidz Gymnastics Club.

Distance: 55 km, 92 km, 126 km and 160 km

Prospera GranFondo

The Valley GranFondo is set in some of the most beautiful road cycling landscapes in Canada and is ranked as one of Canada’s top 10 GranFondos. As always, Saturday’s package pick up will host lots of fun with bike decorating, face painting, bouncy castle, water park and the ever famous kids bike race.

Adventure Races

Spartan Race

“Run. Jump. Duck. Climb. Get Muddy!” The Spartan race is an obstacle course that the whole family can run. Whether you’re four and looking to have some fun, or 40 and want a new challenge, this fun race is a great fit! As they say, “This course is made for you to have the time of your life. If you don’t have fun, we may just make you go back and do it again. (We’re joking. Of course you’ll have fun!)”

Mountain Grind

Do you want to head to Pender Island for an amazing weekend of adventure? This 10KM, family friendly race offers challengers an obstacle course set on the scenic Suncoaster Trail. Kids 10 and up can run with their parents, while children 10 and under can take part in the mini course!

Colour Run

The Colour Run is known as the happiest 5 km run/walking race on the planet! Racers get to run through rainbows of colour over a 5 km course. It’s perfect for all families whether you’re pushing a stroller or trying to keep up with your teens. We loved attending this event and look forward to going again in 2017!

Foam Fest

Are you looking to dress up with our family and enjoy a day of running and walking through obstacles and mud? Then the 5 km Foam Fest is right for you! Perfect for children 8 and up this course provides family with the ultimate adventure!

Dates: June 3 – Abbotsford, BC; June 10 – Nanaimo, BC; June 17 – Sun Peaks, BC; June 24 – Red Deer, AB
