When we were invited to take part in the VIP experience at the Cavalia Odysseo Vancouver show we jumped at the opportunity. We knew this was going to be a very unique and inspiring mother and daughter date night!
The show consists of 65 horses and 45 artists that lead the audience on a great journey where, together, they discover some of the planet’s most unforgettable landscapes. Odysseo combines equestrian arts, stage arts and high-tech theatrical effects in a way that no other show has ever done. The whole show kept us captivated in our seats and made us wonder with excitement about what was going to happen next. We all sat with our jaws on the floor in amazement and with constant whispers of “Wow”, “Oh my goodness!” and “That was so cool” throughout all the acts.
Here are the Top 5 things our girls (and us moms!) LOVED at the show:
The Tent and Stage
At 38 metres tall, the White Big Top is an amazing temporary structure. The girls were awestruck before we even got inside! You would never know, once you step inside, that you are in tent, as the feel inside is that of a regular theatre. Once seated, we couldn’t believe how elaborate the stage was. The 17,500 square foot stage was covered in over 10,000 tons of rock, earth and sand. The backdrop of the stage were huge screens, making for stunning scenery for every part of the show.
The Food
Part of the VIP experience includes a buffet before the show, desserts during intermission, drinks and snacks. The girls loved that they had their very own kids corner complete with a kid level buffet consisting of mini hot dogs, cheese pizza, mini burgers, fruit and GIANT cookies! The adult buffet was equally delicious and had a variety of salads, smoked salmon, prawns, lentil curry and steak.
The Horses
There were 65 horses of 11 different breeds in the show. We watched in amazement as these huge animals walked and ran gracefully during the show. It was incredible to see that these horses knew exactly what to do and where to go, as many times they were loose on stage with no rider or harness on them. You could tell how well trained, how well looked after and how loved they were by watching their interactions with the artists on stage with them.
The Artists
The 45 artists are from all over the world and are riders, acrobats, aerialists, dancers and musicians. Their performances kept us all on the edge of our seats. We watched in astonishment as the riders performed stunts on the horses, the acrobats and aerialists flew through the air above our heads and the dancers and musicians created a wave of awe and amazement throughout the crowd. You could tell they all thoroughly love what they do!
The Backstage Visit
We all felt like VIP’s when we were whisked backstage after the show for a tour. We got an up close and personal meet and greet with Don Maestro and his incredible stunt rider Charles in the stables. And we even got to walk on the actual stage! The smiles on the girls faces as they got to stand where the horses and artists performed were priceless!
