To the Top of the World… on the Peak to Peak in Whistler

Posted on

The Peak to Peak in Whistler is one of Whistler’s newer and most popular attractions. Built in 2008 at a cost of $51 million dollars, the Peak to Peak gondola allows visitors to travel between the top of Whistler Mountain and Blackcomb Mountain in a self-contained viewing suite. The Peak to Peak in Whistler sets world records for having the longest freespan between rope-way towers, so it’s not only the view you’ll love, but also the experience.

Top Seven  Reasons to Explore the Peak to Peak in Whistler

Accessible For All

The Peak to Peak is accessible for everyone. Whether you’re an avid hiker looking to take off into the mountains from the top, or travelling with a stroller, the gondola system, entrance and exit points, and views are suitable for guests of all abilities. This makes this tourist attraction one of the best stops for families visiting with both young children and grandparents.

Experience From the Time you Board

From the second you step onto the gondola at the base of the mountain you are welcomed into an experience like no other. The gondolas quickly sweep you up the mountain and you instantly find yourself overlooking views of Whistler Village, then out to the Valley, and casting over mountain tops.

Top of the World

On Whistler Mountain there is the possibility to take a chair lift to the top of the world. This steep ride isn’t for the faint of heart. Riders must be 48 inches tall and able to listen and stay safe in the chair lift. The ride takes you approximately 10 minutes up to the summit of Whistler Mountain offering you 360 degree views of the surrounding mountain ranges. It’s honestly one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been and a trip to the Peak to Peak wouldn’t be complete without this mini excursion.

Inukshuk

If you make your way to the top of the hill you’ll find this iconic Inukshuk. This Inukshuk, which is a legacy piece of art from the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, symbolizes friendship and the welcoming of the world. Pose for a group photo or take a selfie with this amazing sculpture as it welcomes you to Whistler.

Variety of Experiences

If you’re feeling adventurous you can take your experience to the next level and take advantage of one of the other mountain top experiences once you arrive at the top of the peak. Why not take a tour of a glacier via helicopter? If flying in the hills isn’t your thing, join one of the local interpreters for guided Eco walk.

Epic Views

One thing I love about Canada is that we are truly proud of our land and do our best to preserve it… and tourists come from all around the world to see our amazing landscape. As much as I always love soaking in the scenery it’s fun to tune into all of the visitors and watch them “oooo” and “ahh” over the views. It’s certainly something we should never take for granted.

Bike Park

Perhaps you’ve wanted to check out the bike park but aren’t too sure what it’s like, or maybe you just want to see what all the action is about. During your 20 minute trip up the hill you’ll be soaring directly above the Whistler Bike Park and will get to see riders flying down the hill below you. Keep your eyes open for the showoffs who like to do stunts and jumps for you!

Now that you are ready, here is what you’ll want to bring:

  • The alpine air can be up to 10 degrees cooler than it is in the village (sometimes even more!) so be sure to have jackets packed in your backpack, no matter how warm it is.
  • We like to always have snacks and water on hand for the kids… hungry kids are cranky kids and this is an adventure you don’t want them to miss out on!
  • A camera is a necessity as the views really are world -class.
