Let The Good Times Roll At Stardust Roller Skate Rink in Guildford Town Centre

Posted on

Are you looking to bring back memories from the 90’s of Stardust Roller Rink?

Guildford Town Center has brought back one of Surrey’s most cherished memories with a pop-up roller skating rink in the middle of the mall. On opening day we dressed up in our classic 80’s gear (tie-dye shirt and all) and headed to pick up our skates and hit the rink. As soon as the doors opened I was flooded with nostalgia, the large stardust logo painted on the wall, the disco ball spinning in the middle of the rink, the DJ blasting out music in the corner… oh the memories!

I can’t tell you how many birthday parties I had or attended at the OG Stardust. How many late Friday nights have we spent rolling around the rink? Or even about the lessons I took to develop my roller skating skills! Alas, all the Stardust Roller Skating Rink memories came flooding back and it was equally exciting to be able to share the experience with my kids

So let’s dive into what this roller skating pop-up event at Guildford Town Centre is really like so you can have all the resources you need to plan your own skate at Stardust.

With the slogan, “Let the good times roll!” painted prominently on the wall, Guildford Town Centre has brought back the beloved local landmark, Stardust Roller Rink! Reimagined for a short time, GTC has built a 1690-square-foot roller rink and lounge that captures the retro-themed atmosphere. You’ll be welcomed by 90’s teal, graffiti wall, neon lights, and of course, the DJ booth in the corner! “Reopening Stardust is more than just a nod to the past; it’s a revival of the community spirit that once defined the time-honoured rink.” Guildford Town Centre

Skate Stardust – Curated by DJ Flipout

Remember the DJ booth in the corner of Stardust Roller Rink? Where you could fill out a little slip of paper and request your favourite songs. Maybe you’d even request a slow song with the hopes of holding hands with a certain special someone while you did laps around the rink? Oh, the pre-teen life of the 90’s!

While there are no tiny slips the music is still plumbing, busting out tunes to keep you moving on the dance floor. DJ Flipout has personally curated the playlist guaranteeing good vibes on the rink. DJ Flipout is best known for his gig on 94.5 Virgin Radio Station where he does live mixing for the Top 40 hits on The 5 O’clock Traffic Jam.

How Long Is The Skating Session At Stardust Roller Rink

Each session is limited to 45 minutes to allow as many people to skate throughout the day. Note: Plan to visit during less busy times and you may be able to drop in and extend your visit or loop back after a snack break!

Stardust Roller Rink History

Stardust Roller Rink originally opened in 1971 in downtown Whalley, across from the North Surrey Recreation Centre. I vividly remember cramping my friends into the back seat of my mom’s 1991 red Mustang and heading down to Stardust on a Sunday afternoon for some skating fun. Some of my favourite pre-teen memories took place on the rink and when it closed in 2005 I think all of us 90’s babies collectively shed a tear.

So being back in my roller skates but this time with my own teenager by my side was an opportunity to not only remember those nostalgic moments but also to create some new memories with my own family

Embracing Pre-Teen vibes, Saved By The Bell Hat and All

As a pre-teen girl I remember strolling the mall, the brown tiles under my feet and affectionately referring to the hangout as “Guildford Mall”. My girlfriend and I would always stop at Body Shop to get the latest eco-centric T-shirt, and no trip was complete without fudgesicle from Purdys. Pre-cell phone era, I remember always having a quarter in my pocket so I could call my Mom when we were done shopping, and had a dedicated meeting spot that she would loop around to collect us.

25 years later Guildford Mall has transitioned into a destination town center after undergoing millions of dollars of renovations. Now they boast iconic stores like Apple and Lego and a host of restaurants like Milestones (our “go-to” back in the day was Red Robin!). As the third largest mall in BC, it probably has every store you need, and more.

Here are Some Great Articles to Inspire Local Fall Adventures!

Is this sponsored content: This is not sponsored content and the words shared reflect my experience. As soon as I found out about this event I emailed the mall and their PR company and said, “I NEED to be there for opening day” and begged for an invite to the opening day event.
