Discover Finland
A land of 188,000 lakes, 40 national parks, and one very good reason to sit still — the sauna.

Finland is not a destination that announces itself loudly. It draws you in slowly — through the stillness of a forest path dusted in snow, the shimmer of a lake at midnight in July, the warmth of a wood-fired sauna after a day spent entirely outdoors.

It is a country of extraordinary natural beauty and a people with a quiet, deep pride in the land they call home.

From the Arctic wilderness of Lapland in the north — where reindeer roam and the Northern Lights arc across the sky — to the sun-drenched archipelago coastline of the south, Finland offers a landscape that changes completely with the seasons but is always, unmistakably, itself.

In summer, the Midnight Sun keeps the sky lit around the clock. In winter, a blue-white hush settles over the entire country and the lights come out to play.

Things to Know About...
Traveling to Finland
Finland sits at the top of the world in more ways than one — it's consistently ranked among the happiest, safest, and most liveable countries on the planet. Planning a trip here isn't complicated, but a few things are worth knowing before you go.

Finland is a member of the European Union and uses the Euro as its currency. It is also part of the Schengen Area, which means seamless travel between most European countries if you're combining Finland with other European destinations.

The country has two official languages: Finnish and Swedish. English is very widely spoken, particularly in cities and tourism areas — you will rarely struggle to communicate.

Finland experiences four dramatically different seasons, and the experience of visiting changes completely depending on when you go. Summer brings the Midnight Sun and lush green landscapes. Autumn sets the forests ablaze in colour. Winter delivers deep snow, frozen lakes, and the chance to see the Northern Lights. Spring is brief but joyful as the country thaws and wakes up.

The Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are best seen between September and March, in the northern region of Lapland — particularly around the towns of Rovaniemi, Saariselkä, and Inari. Clear skies and minimal light pollution are your two best friends.

Finland has the highest **sauna-to-person ratio** in the world — there are more saunas than cars in the country. A traditional Finnish sauna experience, followed by a plunge into a cold lake or a roll in the snow, is as non-negotiable a part of a visit here as seeing the Northern Lights. Do not skip it.

Helsinki, the capital, is a city of Nordic design, excellent food, and island-hopping ferries. It punches well above its weight for a capital of its size — its Design District, market square, and island fortress of Suomenlinna make it a destination worth at least a few days of its own.

Finland is one of only a few places in the world where you can meet Santa Claus — or at least visit his "official" hometown. The town of Rovaniemi, right on the Arctic Circle, is home to Santa Claus Village, a genuinely magical experience that is far more charming than it sounds, and well worth a visit even for adults.
