I’ve always been frustrated by people who say, “Must be nice to have so much time on your hands.” Seriously. Warning… I’m about to go off on a rant here.I’ve heard this my whole life. When I was working 30 hours a week, volunteering 12, in school full time, oh, and trying to have some sort of resemblance of a life… I was always met with, “Must be nice to have so much time to… go to school, volunteer, work out, plan a party.”It’s as if I was given some special clock that has extra hours in a day. Okay, that’s my secret, I actually have 28 hours in a day while the normal person has 24. Maybe in my dreams.
The reality is that if it’s important to us, we will find the time for it. Sure, there’s a lot of days where our to-do list out numbers the hours on the clock. But if there’s something that really is worthwhile, we will open up our calendars and prioritize wisely.
Now I don’t want to go without saying that I am very lucky, and always have been surrounded by a huge support group, which ultimately enables things like my ability to volunteer and learn new things. I don’t want to discredit anyone with more on their plate. That’s not the purpose of this post. (See, I see the nasty comments swarming…)
To everyone full of excuses about how their lives are so busy and they don’t have enough time to do the things they want, I say stop. Re-evaluate your priorities and do more of what you love. Life’s too short to keep dreams on a shelf. As they say, “Time Flies.”
